From a small group of Motijheel hardware traders to a nationally recognized institutional voice.

Where we began

Motijheel Computer Society, commonly known as MCS, grew out of the collective efforts of computer traders operating across Motijheel and its surrounding commercial areas. A major milestone was reached in 2004, when local business owners organized a computer fair at Garden Park Shopping Complex, strengthening cooperation among members of the computer business community. Building on this initiative, a seven-member convening committee was formed in 2006, leading to the establishment of MCS as a common platform for local computer traders.

Over the years, MCS strengthened its organizational structure through elected executive councils formed in 2009, 2012, 2014, and 2017. Today, the Society continues to promote unity, professional cooperation, member welfare, and the growth of the ICT business sector while contributing to Bangladesh’s vision of digital development.

Where we are today

Today MCS represents over a thousand member firms, runs a year-round calendar of events and training, publishes industry research, and maintains formal relationships with peer associations and government agencies.

    1998

    Foundation

    MCS is founded by a group of pioneering hardware traders to give voice to the rapidly growing ICT trade community of Motijheel.

    2002

    First Constitution Adopted

    The Society formally adopts its first Constitution and Bylaws, setting out membership categories and the structure of the Executive Committee.

    2007

    Recognition by ICT Division

    MCS is formally recognized by the Government as a representative trade body for ICT traders in the Motijheel area.

    2011

    First Annual Trade Summit

    The inaugural ICT Trade Summit is held in Dhaka, attended by leading hardware vendors, distributors, and policymakers.

    2016

    Welfare Fund Established

    A dedicated welfare fund is established to support members and their families during emergencies.

    2020

    Pandemic Response

    MCS coordinates a sector-wide response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including supply continuity and member welfare.

    2023

    Constitution Amended

    The Constitution is comprehensively amended to modernize governance and member services.

    2026

    Digital Transformation Initiative

    Launch of a society-wide digital transformation programme for member businesses.
